Alicia Keys was born on 25th January 1981 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA. Her birth name Alicia Augello-Cook while her nick name is Lellow. She was born in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan To Teresa (Augello). A paralegal who was also an occasional actress and Craig Cook a flight attendant. Her father is African-American and her mother who is caucasian is of Italian and English/Irish/Scottish ancestry. From childhood Alicia was very found of music as she start learning how to play piano when she was just 7 years old. Alicia Keys proved to be such a prodigy that she was later accepted into he prestigious Professional Performance Arts School of Manhattan, where she majored in choir.She was not only found of her music but she prove herself as a bright student as well. She completed her graduation at the age of 16 as she was very exceptional student. Alicia Keys is a great singer as in 1988 she singed with Arista Records and wrote produced and recorded her own album. After spending 11 years while working with Arista Records in 1999 she left Arista and start working with J Records. That was headed by legendary music impresario Clive Davis and her sucess has been meteoric.
